Learn how to Appliqué - 4 lessons

Learn how to hand sew needle turn appliqué, and become obsessed by one of the oldest and most satisfying hand sewing techniques.
Over 4 lessons of 2 hours we'll go from learning the technique to making a finished piece you've designed yourself. You can either apply the appliqué to a wall hanging (I will provide the base and do the binding) or to a garnment you already own ( a jacket, pants, bag or even a pillow case). We’ll also cover other hand-sewing stitches to combine with appliqué.

No sewing machine needed. if you can thread a needle, you can do this.

Important information

  • All materials (fabric, thread etc) and all tools, if you choose to work on a piece of clothing you already own, you bring that with you. You can choose your motif from my library, or we can create a custom one after consultation. 

  • The course consists of 4 sessions of 2 hours. You can select your preferred timeslot when booking, or select “other” and I will reach out to figure out a schedule.

    Before we start: you select weither you want a wall hanging or to customize your own clothes, send over your color and motif preferences/inspiration and I prepare everything.
    On session 1: We get accustomed to needle turn applique and hand-sewing in general, and practice on test fabrics.
    On session 2:  We experiment with more complex shapes, play with colour and composition.
    On session 3: We design your own motif, prepare everything and start your final project.
    On session 4: We finish the appliqué, finishing touches and celebrate!

  • The sessions run weekly on the same day and time, ideally 4 weeks in a row once we get started. After you book I'll reach out within 48h to confirm a start date and a schedule that fits you.

    The course is located in my home Studio in Haarlem Noord (5 min biking from Haarlem Station). Once you book I will send you the exact location.
    Note that there are 4 cats in the house, all very chill and cute, and on Sundays there may be kids in the house (not in the Studio), also cute but definitely not chill.
